Our Story
Laura
Laura is a Hampton Roads native who settled comfortably in Chesapeake after returning from college in South Carolina.
After trying banking, theater, restaurant life and construction she decided the best thing she could do was work for herself so you can always find her at afrugalchick.com helping people save money.
Building her business has taken most of her time but she does occasionally do community theater, perform in other venues locally and help lead worship at River Oak Church. She enjoys working out, visiting Colonial Williamsburg, listening to true crime podcasts and reading historical non-fiction.
Chris
Chris moved around most of his childhood but settled in the Hampton Roads area in '87. A high school athlete he played basketball and baseball. After high school he worked in the family contracting business and still enjoys working on projects around the house and for friends.
Chris is the proud father of 3- Kaitlyn (29), Noah (23) and Sydney (21).
Chris has worked the last 27 years in the cleaning industry and is currently in sales for OnPoint Building Services. He enjoys golfing with his friends and kayaking when the weather is nice. When he is forced to be inside he enjoys watching Louisville College Basketball and golf.
Otherwise his favorite hobby is working on the yard.
Laura & Chris
Laura and Chris aren't exactly sure when they first met. Laura remembers spending the night at his house with his little sister when she was in 4th or 5th grade and seeing a slightly grouchy older brother walk through and grunt something.
While Chris and Laura were never around each other their families became friendly due to the fact that they both attended the same church. Laura has many memories of waiting bored in the church lobby while their parents chatted away after Sunday evening service.
Fast forward to 2021, their mutual friend Leanna had decided Laura and Chris needed to get together. She mentioned this to Chris but smartly didn't say anything to Laura. So in February 2021 she asked Laura to come hang out one Friday night around the fire pit. Laura showed up nasty from the gym and there sitting at the kitchen table was Chris. The whole night was horribly awkward and Chris informed Leanna the next day it was never going to happen. BUT they did become Facebook friends after that.
For the next two months Laura watched Chris' Facebook feed and got to know him a bit better through that. So when Leanna, her husband Brent and she all had a Friday night off work they agreed to meet up for dinner. Leanna asked if Chris could join since "he is trying to make new friends."
Laura arrived first to get a table and as she settled in her phone rang. It was Leanna letting her know that she and Brent would be late but Chris was coming in and could keep her company. By the time they arrived 30 minutes later Chris and Laura were both interested.
Laura knew she wanted to marry Chris May 15, 2021 but she played hard to get. Their first date was June 12, 2021. And June 11, 2022 Chris got down on one knee under the fireworks of Harborfest on board the American Rover and proposed.
